Smile Sis!
Firstly let me start of with something that's been on my mind recently, I really don't know how I feel about the word "sis" I feel like its now being used as a patronising term at first it was a way of acknowledging fellow women to show we are sisters ! but now its turned into a way to talk down to someone like "your man wont leave me alone , SORRY SIS", it just really upsets but non the less what on the internet doesn't.
Secondly I want to talk about a recent encounter that I had with someone and how it got me thinking, So I was on the escalator and i made eye contact with another black girl I smiled at her but she screwed up her face and kissed her teeth now this is really not the first time this has happed. It seems like whenever I acknowledge another black girl i always get strange responses, why are we like this towards each other , it seems like as black women we put each other down more than we lift each other up. As black women we need to understand that we are the bottom of the barrel, we are both WOMEN and BLACK two things that put us at a disadvantage we need to stand together and although smiling is not the thing that's going to change the world it is one little thing that brings us one step closer to being united!
